Ooredoo Myanmar and ZTE Corporation have today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on 5G network development.
The partnership will leverage the technical expertise of ZTE Corporation and support Ooredoo Myanmar’s efforts to provide a world-class telecom infrastructure for the people of Myanmar.
Alok Verma, Acting CEO of Ooredoo Myanmar, said: “Ooredoo is the first telecom operator in Myanmar to launch initiatives towards 5G development, which will unlock the next generation of wireless technology with high speeds, ultra-low latency and greater capacities, unleashing new possibilities in mobility, manufacturing, healthcare, transportation and several other industries.”
Ooredoo Myanmar and ZTE Corporation are considering potential test environments to deploy the operator’s 5G network. The test environments will be used to evaluate the performance of the 5G network and technology to ensure that best-in-class service is achieved once the network is operational.
Mei Zhonghua, SVP of ZTE Corporation said: “5G is the future of wireless technology which designed to meet ever advancing and increasingly complex sets of performance requirements. It is about 100 times faster than 4G. It offers ultra-low latency, will catalyse mobility, industrial networking, remote healthcare, virtual reality, and ultra-high-definition video, and enhance our customers’ digital experience and help them enjoy the Internet in new and exciting ways. 5G will impact the entire mobile network and associated eco-system, from devices to radio access, IP core and into the cloud.”
Ooredoo has been gearing up to test this new generation of 5G wireless technology since 2014. Over the next few months, it plans to reach more world-first milestones by testing 5G mobile and networks through user trials and commercial launches across Ooredoo Opcos around the world.
