Samsung Electronics has appointed mobile chief Roh Tae-moon as acting head of its consumer and smartphone unit following the death of former boss Han Jong-Hee.
Han, who was also Samsung’s co-CEO, passed away last week. Roh Tae-moon has been tasked with revamping the Korean company’s struggling chip business amid rising competition. A spokesperson told Reuters that no decision has been made yet on whether the company will retain its previous co-CEO structure. The Samsung board will determine this at a later date.
Roh, 56, has led the mobile unit since 2020. He now oversees the newly formed DX division, which includes TVs, home appliances, and smartphones.
In a press release, Samsung stated that the move aims to “minimise the leadership vacuum” in its DX division through this executive reshuffle.
The company also announced the appointment of former Qualcomm executive Choi Won-joon, who currently heads R&D for the mobile unit, to the newly created role of chief operating officer of the division.
Additionally, former head of DX division marketing Kim Cheol-gi has been appointed to lead the digital appliances unit.
