Telin launches second Bifrost cable landing station in Indonesia

Telkom Indonesia’s international arm Telin has launched a new cable landing station (CLS) in Kalasey, Minahasa, which will serve as its second landing point for the Bifrost subsea cable system connecting North America and Southeast Asia.

The launch of the new Manado-Minahasa CLS on Thursday follows Telin’s completion of its Jakarta CLS last year, as well as Bifrost cable landings at both CLS sites. Telin said the Manado-Minahasa CLS is now ready to be fully activated and integrated into Telkom’s network.

Telin added that the Manado-Minahasa CLS is designed with advanced, scalable infrastructure and robust front-haul connections, which means it can accommodate multiple submarine cable systems.

“Supporting Bifrost and future cables, we are enabling greater connectivity, innovation, and economic opportunity across the Asia-Pacific region,” Telin CEO Budi Satria Dharma Purba said in a statement.

The 19,888-km Bifrost system, which has been under construction since 2021, is backed by Telin, Keppel Midgard Holdings (KMH), Meta and Amazon. The cable aims to connect the US and Mexico with Singapore via intermediate landing points in Guam, Indonesia, and the Philippines, with a designed capacity of 10.4 Tbps.

Telin owns all 12 fibre pairs of the Jakarta branch, and two of six fibre paits for the Manado branch.

After several delays, the Bifrost cable is slated to be ready for service in the third quarter of this year.
