Iran 5G trials achieve 1.5Gbps

Iran’s Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Technology has claimed that the country has completed successful trials of 5G technology.

Sattar Hashemi stated that the tests achieved data download rates of 1.5Gbps, as reported by TeleGeography.

Local news agency IRNA reported that the trials were conducted at a research centre in Tehran that was founded by MTN Irancell. However, it noted that despite the centre’s South African ownership, “all stakeholders” were welcome to participate in the trials.

At the start of this month, Iran’s government told the country’s state-owned operator MCI (Mobile Communication Company of Iran) that it must begin launching 5G in certain areas of Tehran by early September.
