Tencent Cloud partners with U Mobile on enterprise 5G and AI solutions

Tencent Cloud announced on Tuesday it has signed an MoU with Malaysian 5G operator U Mobile to explore development of practical 5G and AI solutions for enterprises and SMEs.

The two companies will focus on developing, testing, and demonstrating potential solutions to real-world business challenges for industry adoption by leveraging Tencent Cloud’s AI and cloud capabilities and U Mobile’s 5G network, as well as its Enterprise Innovation Platform (EIP).

As part of the initiative, U Mobile and Tencent Cloud will conduct workshops, demonstrations, innovation sessions and pilot showcases to persuade businesses, startups, developers, academia and technology partners to co-create, test and validate applications with real-world potential. 

The partnership agreement also covers the exchange of technical expertise across areas including 5G, AI, system integration, security and enterprise deployment.

Poshu Yeung, senior VP of Tencent Cloud and head of Tencent Cloud International, said the MoU marks the company’s first official AI-focused partnership with a Malaysian telecoms provider.

“By combining Tencent Cloud's AI and cloud capabilities with U Mobile's 5G infrastructure and innovation ecosystem, we look forward to enabling enterprises, SMEs, and developers to build impactful 5G and AI applications that address real-world business challenges while supporting Malaysia's digital transformation ambitions,” Yeung said in a statement.

The deal comes a month after U Mobile officially launched its EIP Hub, which provides enterprises with a sandbox to collaborate on developing real-world solutions using 5G-Advanced and AI. Tencent Cloud is joining EIP as a strategic partner. Other EIP partners include  Amazon Web Services (AWS), Huawei Malaysia, Palo Alto Networks, Qualcomm, Braintree Technologies, China Mobile International, Meraque Group and ZTE Malaysia.
