Viettel’s Natcom meets with Haiti's Central Bank to discuss digital finance projects

Vietnam's Viettel Group announced on Friday it has held discussions with the Central Bank of Haiti to expand cooperation on telecoms and digital finance projects in the Caribbean country via its local operation, Natcom.

According to a LinkedIn post, Viettel Group said its chairman Tao Duc Thang met with Haiti's Central Bank governor Ronal Gabriel to discuss future cooperation in key areas including digital payment infrastructure, financial switching systems, interbank clearing, and digital disbursement platforms to help accelerate Haiti’s digital economy.

The LinkedIn post said Gabriel highly valued Viettel’s long-term development vision and strong focus on digital transformation, noting that Natcom’s growth over the past 15 years reflects Viettel’s strategic foresight and long-term commitment to sustainable development in Haiti.

“With continued support from the Government of Haiti, the Central Bank, and local partners, Natcom is well positioned to strengthen its leadership in the country and expand its contribution across the region,” the Viettel post said.

Natcom has been active in Haiti since 2011 – the product of a JV between Viettel Global and the Haitian government in a move to privatise Télécommunications d’Haïti (Teleco). Natcom currently offers 3G and 4G services, fibre broadband services for consumers and businesses, mobile money services and e-government solutions. It has also deployed over 3,000 km of fibre connecting urban centres and rural districts, covering 90% of Haiti’s population, according to Viettel’s web site.
