Smart Axiata and Grab aim to boost digital mobility in Cambodia

Cambodian telco Smart Axiata says it has signed an MoU with super app firm Grab to look at ways to collaborate on B2C and B2B initiatives that leverage Smart’s 5G network to create a more connected and customer-centric digital and mobility ecosystem.

The MoU, signed last Wednesday and revealed on Monday, focuses on three main customer-facing projects, to include SIMs for tourists and travellers paired with Grab Mobility services, digital rewards that allow SmartVIP members to redeem loyalty points for Grab e-vouchers, and service bundles combining Smart Axiata’s 5G connectivity and Grab’s digital services to create a more seamless experience for customers across both ecosystems.

On the B2B side, Grab will introduce a range of initiatives for Smart’s corporate and retail ecosystem, while Smart Enterprise and Grab for Business will explore opportunities to support the broader business community.

“Digital services do not exist in isolation. In today’s digital age, connectivity and mobility go hand in hand,” said Smart Axiata CEO Ritesh Kumar Singh in a statement. “This collaboration with Grab brings together meaningful connectivity and mobility solutions, helping to remove friction from everyday life.”

"Cambodia's digital economy is accelerating rapidly, and this partnership with Smart Axiata allows us to drive that momentum where connectivity meets convenience,” added Sovannarot Kang, country head of Grab’s Expansion Region (Cambodia and Myanmar).

The Grab MoU is Smart Axiata’s latest move to position its recently launched 5G network as a digital ecosystem enabler. Earlier this month, the telco signed an MoU with Amazon's Prime Video to “deliver richer digital lifestyle experiences” for its 5G customers.
