Mobiuz lays out ambitious 2020 deployment plan

Uzbekistan’s state operator Mobiuz has embarked on a wide-reaching modernisation of its network in order to boost capacity and quality of service.

The operator, which until last year was branded as Universal Mobile Systems (UMS), has stated that it plans to add 1000 base stations across the country by the end of 2020. Mobiuz’ Technical Director Olga Filatova told UzDaily that base stations were being switched on “daily” and that “technical activities are being carried out at an even faster pace [than 2019].”

Filatova went on to say that Mobiuz would begin by focusing on areas that experienced high amounts of network traffic. The operator will implement capacity upgrades in Tashkent, but since network coverage is weaker outside the capital it will need to strengthen this.
