Turkish satellite operator Turksat has ordered its sixth communications satellite from France' s Alcatel.

Set for launch in 2008, the Alcatel Spacebus 4000 will be known as Turksat 3A. Its key roles are telecom and television broadcast services in Turkey and in parts of Europe and Central Asia.

Turksat 3A will feature 24 Ku-band transponders with 8 kW of power. The spacecraft will replace the current Turksat 1C. Alcatel will handle launch arrangements and in-orbit delivery.
