Thai telco True Corp announced on Tuesday that it has become the first mobile operator in Thailand to achieve Level 4 autonomy validation from TM Forum for 5G service assurance and RAN energy efficiency optimization.
Under TM Forum’s Autonomous Networks Levels model (where Level 0 is fully manual operations and Level 5 is fully autonomous), a Level 4 autonomous network uses AI to predict issues and automatically adjust itself to maintain optimal performance. It can monitor, analyse, and optimize in real-time, making it more reliable, agile, secure, and easier to manage.
True said the validation for service assurance of individual services under TM Forum’s Autonomous Network Level Assessment Validation (ANLAV) program confirms that its 5G network – powered by Ericsson’s AI-enabled intent-based operations – is capable of operating independently with advanced automation, and it is also ready to support industrial-grade services and AI-powered applications.
The RAN energy efficiency optimization validation is for True’s use of AI for base-station energy management to reduce energy consumption by switching off base stations when there is no usage, and automatically reactivating them immediately when demand appears.
True said the solution has enabled it to reduce energy consumption by 10-12% in nationwide live operations, as well as greenhouse gas emissions by 40,000 tonness of carbon dioxide per year.
True Corp chief network officer Khurrum Ashfaque said the throughput management capability assessed under the ANLAV program has been active in True’s network since the start of Q4 2025. It leverages GenAI technologies to manage conflicting intents, simulate solutions using digital twins, and swiftly execute the best actions ensuring fast, reliable, connectivity.
“This milestone empowers us to deliver differentiated services to consumers and enterprises, while supporting Thailand’s journey towards becoming a digital economy,” he said in a statement.
The L4 validation for 5G service assurance is the second to be awarded by TM Forum in Southeast Asia, after Malaysia’s 5G wholesaler Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) received the same validation last month.
DNB’s 5G automation and intelligent network operations are also powered by Ericsson’s intent-based operations solution, which DNB deployed in its multi-operator core network (MOCN) in late 2023.
