Technology giant Ericsson and Egypt’s Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), to reinforce collaboration over a three-year period and support the development of Egypt’s information and communications technology (ICT) and digital services industries.
Ericsson notes that the collaboration is aligned with the Digital Egypt Strategy for Offshoring Industry 2022–2026, whose aims include tripling the export revenue for Egypt from digitally enabled offshoring services, and creating and increasing sustainable employment opportunities in the offshoring services industry with a focus on high-value services.
The strategy also aims to establish a recognisable brand name for Egypt in emerging digital services and technologies such as artificial intelligence and advanced data analytics.
Dr Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, explains: “The agreement with Ericsson is part of a broader package with 55 global and local companies expanding their investments in Egypt’s offshoring sector, leveraging our highly skilled workforce, advanced digital infrastructure, and strategic geographic location. These competitive advantages strengthen Egypt’s position as a trusted global partner and enable companies to deliver world-class digital services, empowering enterprises to grow from Egypt to the world.”
The Ericsson/ ITIDA collaboration in particular establishes a joint framework to enhance ICT technologies and services across the country. The initiative supports potential expansion in areas such as engineering, research and development, business process management and knowledge services.
The MoU includes cooperation on digital skills training programmes, employment fairs and industry events, as well as collaboration with universities to support youth, graduates and students.
Ericsson and ITIDA say they have previously collaborated on seminars and capacity-building initiatives related to emerging technologies.
