e& UAE taps Ciena to deploy future-proof DWDM network

e& UAE announced on Wednesday it’s deploying a future-ready DWDM network using next-gen optical and software solutions from Ciena to prepare for growing traffic demand driven by hyperscale cloud and AI services.

Specifically, e& UAE is leveraging Ciena’s Reconfigurable Line System (RLS) and Waveserver platform equipped with WaveLogic 6 Extreme (WL6e) 1.6-Tbps coherent optics to support the DWDM rollout. The telco is also deploying Ciena’s Navigator Network Control Suite for end-to-end network visibility and automation.

e& UAE said the DWDM buildout is designed to provide significantly increased capacity to support rapid growth of bandwidth demand across the region and beyond from hyperscalers, “neoscalers “ (cloud providers that specialize in high-performance infrastructure for intensive AI workloads) and data centre operators.

e& UAE CTO Marwan Bin Shakar said the new network will enable the telco to power the next wave of digital growth with greater scalability, ultra-high-capacity, and the foundation needed for the upcoming massive demands of advanced digital services, from increased bandwidth workloads and cloud services to data centre interconnect and future digital applications.

“This new DWDM network represents a significant step forward in the capacity and scalability of our infrastructure, helping the region respond to rapidly growing bandwidth demand,” he said in a statement .

“The Middle East is experiencing a surge in bandwidth demand, driven by the rapid expansion of various advanced digital applications,” added Brodie Gage, senior VP and chief product and technology officer at Ciena. “It’s clear that e& UAE’s next-generation network will transform the region and help position the company to stay ahead of today’s and tomorrow’s evolving digital requirements.”
