AIS and Huawei Cloud team for smart manufacturing powered by 5G and AI

AIS Business and Huawei Cloud have signed an MoU to accelerate Thailand’s industrial sector towards smart manufacturing using private 5G, cloud and AI-powered data solutions.

Under the MoU signed on Monday, AIS and Huawei Cloud agreed to jointly develop end-to-end digital infrastructure for factories capable of connecting data generated by machinery and production systems within factories via private 5G networks, fibre networks and secure connectivity solutions.

The digital infrastructure will also be designed to leverage GPU computing capabilities to collect, process and analyse data in the cloud.

AIS and Huawei Cloud also intend to develop practical AI-driven use cases for manufacturing production processes, including AI-powered quality inspection; predictive maintenance; robotics, AGVs and AMRs connected by 5G; real-time factory monitoring; production line optimization using data analytics and AI; and an integrated industrial data platform for developing AI models, digital twins and future autonomous operations.

AIS said these six use cases will enable manufacturers to kick off their transformation to smart factories by addressing key challenges within their factories before gradually expanding to other production lines and processes as their organizations become ready.

AIS chief enterprise business officer Phupa Akavipat said its smart-manufacturing digital infrastructure will help strengthen business competitiveness and boost Thailand’s readiness to support local manufacturers and international investors seeking to expand their production bases in the country.

“Given the importance of manufacturing to the country, we must work together to strengthen the sector’s capabilities and prepare it for global competition, which is increasingly being driven by data, AI, automation and new manufacturing technologies,” he said in a statement. “This transformation requires a digital infrastructure that can securely and reliably connect network, cloud, data and AI with factory systems, while supporting future growth.”

According to World Bank data, Thailand’s industrial sector accounted for around 25% of GDP in 2024 and represented 16% of total employment, or more than 6.2 million jobs.
