Telxius launches landing gateway and data centre in Cancun for AMX3/Tikal

Global connectivity provider Telxius says it has built a carrier-neutral, AI-ready landing gateway and edge data centre in Cancun, Mexico that will serve as a new landing point for the upcoming AMX3/Tikal subsea cable linking Guatemala and Florida.

Telxius says the Tier III edge data centre, revealed on Thursday, is purpose-built to support data-intensive and latency-sensitive workloads, with N+1/2N redundancy across critical power and cooling systems, and advanced physical and network security.

The facility’s carrier-neutral design enables customers to interconnect with multiple networks, cloud providers and digital platforms from Mexico, through a single infrastructure ecosystem, Telxius added.

The landing gateway will provide direct access to the AMX3/Tikal subsea cable being jointly developed by Telxius and América Móvil via a branch link being built solely by Telxius. Both the landing gateway and edge data centre are directly integrated into Telxius’ global backbone, offering access to major digital hubs across the Americas and Europe.

Telxius CMO Mónica Martínez said that together with its existing SAm-1 and PCCS infrastructure, its Punta Cana landing gateway in the Dominican Republic, the AMX3/Tikal cable and the upcoming CELIA subsea cable that will connect various Caribbean islands to the US, the new Cancun facility will further strengthen the carrier’s network and position in the Caribbean.

“By bringing connectivity and computing resources closer to where demand is growing, we enable lower latency, greater resilience, and faster access to cloud, content and AI-driven services for customers across the region,” she said in a statement.

The AMX3/Tikal cable’s ready-for-service date has been pushed back from mid-2026 to the first half of 2027, with an estimated initial capacity of 380 Tbps.
