Vodacom South Africa announced on Thursday it is expanding its partnership with Amazon South Africa to offer the latter's Amazon Prime membership service to its customers.
As part of the offering, Vodacom’s existing Red Core, Red Flexi and Red VIP customers will get all the benefits of Amazon Prime, which includes unlimited Prime Video, exclusive deals and discounts on items, early access to special deals and deal events, same day/next day delivery in major cities, and free gaming and a Twitch channel subscription through Amazon Luna.
Red Flexi customers will receive a free three-month trial, while Red Core customers get a 12-month trial. Red VIP, Home Internet and Fibre customers will receive free lifetime access as long as they keep their current subscription levels. Vodacom prepaid customers can sign up to Amazon Prime and pay using their airtime.
Vodacom added that new customers who sign up for a home internet, mobile broadband or fibre plan will be eligible for Amazon Prime starting in August 2026.
Rishaad Tayob, director of consumer business at Vodacom South Africa, said the partnership not only positions Vodacom as a “holistic digital lifestyle provider”, but also will benefit customers looking for increased value in response to persistent economic pressures and the rising cost of living.
“Through partnerships such as this, we remain committed to ensuring our product offerings deliver value for money, helping to ease the financial pressure on our customers, while advancing our purpose of connecting everyone for a better future," Tayob said in a statement.
While Amazon launched in South Africa two years ago, it only began offering Amazon Prime in the country at the start of this month.
Vodacom has been offering Prime Video since 2020 and Prime Video Mobile Edition since 2022.
