Amdocs MENA: Shlomi Moscovici's 2014 Trends

In the largest market, South Africa, we have seen several trends.

Local Loop Unbundling – allowing operators to access all but the “last mile” – now looks set for 2014. This will lead to a boom in the retail wired sector, with fierce competition for services such as FTTC (Fibre to the Community).

On the wireless side, the retail market is also set for a revolution with strong indication that a shared infrastructure between two of the mobile telcos will be announced in the near future. This will change the dynamic of the market and although intuition suggests that reducing the number of operators might decrease competition, consensus is that the move might increase competition as a stronger contender is born.

In terms of the combined fixed/wireless markets, we see service providers investing in new services and lines of business to capture greater average revenue per user (ARPU) – or ARPA (-per account) as many are now describing it. The small-to-medium business (SMB) market will open up with LLU, allowing service providers to provide services across the board, from mobile to broadband, VoIP and applications, all on a single bill.

Shlomi Moscovici is the VP of Middle East & Africa at Amdocs.
