India’s smartphone market slides 7% in Q4 2025

India’s smartphone market contracted by 7% in the fourth quarter of 2025, shipping 34.5 million units, as rising prices and sluggish demand weighed on consumer purchases, according to analyst house Omdia.

Inventory pressures mounted as retailers struggled to move devices, with macroeconomic headwinds prompting a slowdown in sales. For the full year, the market shipped 154.2 million units, down 1% from 2024, signalling “clear signs of maturation,” Omdia noted.

Vivo led shipments in Q4 and for the year with 7.9 million units, capturing a 23% share, followed by Samsung with 4.9 million units (14%). Oppo leapfrogged Xiaomi to take third with 4.6 million units (13%), while Xiaomi and Apple shipped 4.2 million and 3.9 million units, respectively.

Omdia principal analyst Sanyam Chaurasia said rising memory costs and a weakening rupee forced vendors to adjust pricing across new and carry-over models. “Entering the post-festive quarter with elevated inventories, channels remained cautious on fresh stocking. As affordability weakened, sell-out momentum softened further from November onwards, reinforcing Q4’s role as an inventory digestion quarter,” he said.
