Ukrainian telco Kyivstar announced on Thursday it has purchased regional ISP Shtorm to boost its presence in the fixed broadband space. No financial details were disclosed.
Shtorm provides coverage in the Kirovohrad region, covering the cities of Kropyvnytskyi, Oleksandriya and 132 adjacent settlements. Shtorm – whose telecom infrastructure includes PON, FTTB and WiMAX technologies – currently serves more than 50,000 subscribers.
Kyivstar said the Shtorm acquisition will expand its geographical fixed-line coverage and provide its customers with more reliable and sustainable access to the Internet in regions facing energy supply challenges. Meanwhile, Shtorm subscribers will benefit from access to a wider range of telecomms and digital services from Kyivstar.
“This acquisition is a logical step in the implementation of Kyivstar's leadership strategy in the fixed communication services market in Ukraine,” said Kyivstar CEO Oleksandr Komarov in a statement.
Komarov added that Shtorm will retain its existing team of over 100 specialists – including engineers, designers and service centre specialists – to provide network maintenance and subscriber support in Kirovohrad.
“The synergy of the teams and expertise of the two companies, as well as the investment opportunities of Kyivstar, will allow us to provide subscribers with a qualitatively new level of service both in the field of telecommunications and in access to Kyivstar digital products,” Komarov said.
