ASN and OMS contracted to supply I-AM Cable

Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN) and OMS Group announced on Monday that they have signed a contract with newly formed JV Intra-Asia Marine Networks (I-AM NW) to supply and install the Intra-Asia Marine (I-AM) Cable system linking Japan and Southeast Asia.

Under the agreement, ASN will supply the subsea cable system and associated equipment, while OMS Group will lead the marine installation. No financial details were disclosed.

I-AM NW is the joint venture established last week by NTT Data, Sumitomo and JA Mitsui Leasing to build and operate the I-AM Cable, which will connect Japan, Malaysia and Singapore, with additional connectivity planned for Korea, the Philippines and Taiwan.

The I-AM Cable will utilise wavelength selective switch (WSS) and space division multiplexing (SDM) technology, enabling it to accommodate up to 16 fibre pairs per cable for a total initial capacity of around 320 Tbps.

The 8,100-km cable system – which is expected to cost around US$1 billion – is planned to be ready for service in early fiscal year 2029.
