Telecom Fiji announced on Saturday it has officially launched the Nakorokula–Tavua Fibre Project, billed as a major upgrade that will improve connectivity for families, businesses, schools, and essential services across the Western Division of Fiji.
Under the project, Telecom Fiji will replace old and damaged fibre lines along the route, which runs along the north coast of Fiji Island. Telecom Fiji said the upgrade will provide stronger and more secure connections for households and businesses.
Telecom Fiji added that the upgraded link will also support future development opportunities, especially for businesses looking to set up in the Tavua–Rakiraki corridor, which has been identified as a key growth area for investment.
With improved connectivity, local entrepreneurs, farmers, tourism operators, and government services can operate more efficiently and expand their reach, while businesses can access modern digital tools and cloud services, and improve customer service, said Telecom Fiji CEO Charles Goundar.
Gounder also said communities will experience fewer service disruptions, better access to online services, and improved communication for schools, health centres, and government operations, once the project is completed.
Work on the project is slated to begin this month, and is expected to be completed by the end of May 2026.
