Ooredoo Myanmar and UNDP to support UN’s Sustainable Development Goals

Ooredoo Myanmar and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have entered a two-year partnership undertaking joint activities to unlock the potential of digital technologies for the achievement of UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with a focus on women and youth.

Mobile based applications, tools and solutions have disrupted conventional business models and are driving innovative, cost effective solutions across the entire spectrum of SDGs. Countries are increasingly adopting new innovative ways of connecting producers to consumers directly through e-commerce, using mobile money and digital banking, raising agricultural productivity, creating educational solutions and enabling a whole new generation of entrepreneurs across the economy who can deliver value.

Vikram Sinha, CEO of Ooredoo Myanmar said: “Technology evolution and innovation are widely acknowledged as key drivers of SDGs. In order to harness the full potential of technological innovation for SDGs in Myanmar, we partner with a reputable organisation like UNDP to provide our full support for SDG’s in the areas of disaster resilience, poverty alleviation, women and youth empowerment and agricultural sector based on our Corporate Social Responsibility core values of education, health and technology enhancement”.

Knut Ostby, the UNDP Resident Representative, added: “This partnership will help us engage the enormous potential of young people and technology in moving Myanmar towards the SDG vision of ending poverty, leaving no one behind and ensuring human rights for all.”
