Vivo plumps for CoreMedia DRM

CoreMedia, a provider of interoperable digital rights management (DRM), has announced that Vivo, the largest mobile operator in the Southern Hemisphere, has selected CoreMedia DRM for its comprehensive digital content services. Also ordered are the MMBox/DiNO Platforms from Portugal Telecom (PT) Inovação.

With the combination of CoreMedia DRM and PT Inovação MMBox/DiNO, Vivo is expanding its CDMA-based content services for the multi-channel delivery of premium content offerings of music and more. CoreMedia is thereby creating an interoperable "end-to-end trust model" for content distribution on cell phones, PDAs and PCs.

"We are proud to enable Vivo to be at the very forefront of innovative services for the mobile community", says Dr Willms Buhse, Director Products & Marketing CoreMedia. "It's all about convergence and interoperability in the global market space to enable premium content distribution across social networks.

CoreMedia has an acknowledged expertise in handling premium content such as music, TV and video on a broad scale, enabling seamless convergence between different technical platforms and content offerings. Managing premium content across platforms and devices has a high demand not only for secure DRM but also for capable service delivery platforms that can cope with the high demands of multi-site- and multi-channel management.

Eng Paulo Nordeste, CEO of PT Inovação, believes that the joint project could be a very promising start for the Brazilian and southern hemisphere markets: "Since we are one of the largest suppliers of technology for Vivo, we feel very proud to integrate our MMBox/DiNO platforms with CoreMedia's DRM."

* Vivo is a joint venture of Portugal Telecom and Telefónica Móviles and serves over 30 million customers in Brazil.

** CoreMedia is believed to be the only provider with OMA DRM installations on all five continents".
