Nokia expands DTAC GSM/GPRS/EDGE network in Thailand

Nokia is set to expand GSM/GPRS/EDGE network coverage for Thailand's second largest mobile operator Total Access Communication PLC (DTAC) as part of an existing exclusive frame agreement.

Under the agreement, Nokia will deliver several base stations and services, including project management, implementation and operations support services. Nokia will also provide Smart Radio Concept technology for the radio network to enhance DTAC network coverage and improve quality.

Additionally, base station controllers will be modernised to provide higher capacity. Deliveries are ongoing and will be completed by the end of the year. The DTAC network will continue to be supported by the Nokia NetAct network and service management system.

Following its first supply deal with DTAC in 1994, Nokia has been the sole GSM network supplier since 2003, and sole core network supplier since 2000.

* DTAC provides mobile phone and network services in Bangkok and all other 75 provinces nationwide. It currently has over eight million subscribers, representing 30% share of the market and was the first operator in Thailand to deploy high-speed GPRS and EGDE technologies to accommodate increasing demand for data services.
