Synchronica inks US$1.05 million contract with Indonesian distributor

Synchronica has signed its largest contract to date for Mobile Gateway. The US$1.05 million Indonesian deal includes 300,000 devices over a one-year period.

Mobile email, instant messaging and data synchronisation provider Synchronica has signed its biggest contract to date for Mobile Gateway. The co-signee is a distributor for one of Indonesia’s largest mobile operators, and the contract is worth US$1.05 million for 300,000 devices over a period of 12 months.

Under the terms of the contract, the distributor will sell Synchronica's award-winning Mobile Gateway product (bundled with mobile phones from Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Samsung, Motorola and LG as well as MessagePhones) in the carrier’s mobile phone shops in order to provide push email, synchronisation and instant messaging services.

Synchronica’s Mobile Gateway technology continues to provide push email and mobile synchronisation services and has recently  expanded to include instant messaging, news feeds and access to popular social networking sites. Synchronica’s +technology requires no additional software client to be downloaded to the handset and enables push email for the broadest range of handsets, from high-end Smartphones to low-cost entry level devices.

Indonesia, the fourth most populous country after China, India and the US, has approximately 160 million mobile phone users, nearly two thirds of the population. The country’s three largest mobile operators have between 29 and 80 million subscribers each. As only 10% of Indonesians have access to the Internet, Synchronica believes that the mobile phone can become the primary tool for accessing the Internet, email and instant messaging and thus expects a successful take-up for the Mobile Gateway service.

According to Business Monitor International’s latest Telecommunications Report for Q210, the total number of mobile subscribers in Indonesia is expected to rise to 360 million by 2014, reaching a penetration rate of 144%. The report also forecasts that 3G users will grow by 28.4% to 12 million in 2010, which will account for 5.8% of the total mobile subscriber base as operators are driving up investments in 3G, a result of the low tariffs assigned to their 2G services.

Carsten Brinkschulte, CEO of Synchronica, said, “Demand for Internet access is rising in key emerging markets such as Indonesia and, with the lack of low cost PCs, the mobile phone is quickly becoming the primary device for Internet access. The scale of this contract shows the potential and growing attractiveness of our products to operators who want to retain customers and increase revenues by offering attractive mass-market data services on the entire device spectrum, from high-end devices to low-end basic phones.”
