Geos Communications, which provides solutions for those in the mobile sector, has acquired the Chinese mobile content retailer Duo Guo, which has been described as the only legitimate retail channel for downloading mobile media content in China.

Geos Communications, which develops and distributes mobile applications and services, has acquired Duo Guo, China’s leading mobile content retail provider. The acquisition provides Geos with a unique, market-leading platform for mobile content distribution in the world’s largest mobile communications market and expands Geos’ global presence. Duo Guo is the primary and only legitimate retail channel for the discovery and download of licensed mobile media content in China.

Duo Guo operates a kiosk-based distribution business, which enables mobile device users to discover and download games, movies, music, ringtones and applications. The kiosk network also serves as a channel for a wide range of mobile downloadable services such as ticketing, coupon distribution and advertising. Duo Guo has established partnerships with major retailers, eg, Walmart, China Unicom, Suning and FunTalk, as well as major media content providers including Paramount Pictures, EA Mobile, Cartoon Network, Warner Music Group and others.

Currently, Duo Guo operates more than 75 kiosks in 15 cities across China including Shanghai and Beijing, and the Guangzhou, Shandong, Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces, and is rapidly opening more kiosks.

Jonathan Serbin will continue to be CEO of Duo Guo and of an entity to be formed in Asia as a holding company for the company’s Asian operations, to be headquartered in Shanghai. In his new role, Jonathan Serbin will be responsible for operations in Asia including continuing to grow the Duo Guo distribution platform business.

“This acquisition establishes our presence as a leading distributor of mobile content in the world’s largest mobile communications market,” said Andy Berman, CEO of Geos Communications. “Duo Guo’s cost efficient, profitable and highly scalable retail model also provides Geos with a new, built-in revenue stream. In China there are over 700 million subscribers, mobile content and applications are exploding and with limited regular internet access it’s becoming increasingly difficult for users to navigate to and implement the content they really want.”

“We would like to welcome Jonathan Serbin to the Geos leadership team. He has an extensive background in growing retail and media companies in China, as well as financial and legal expertise. We believe his experience and guidance will prove an important asset as we work to accelerate our global presence, and expand Duo Guo’s reach throughout key cities and provinces in China where we see exciting growth opportunities,” Mr. Berman concluded.

* Geos Communications is creating solutions for the rapidly growing global, mobile community. Leveraging transformational technology and intellectual property as well as strategic and pervasive distribution channels, Geos provides products and applications for enterprises, small-to-medium businesses and consumers on the go.

** Duo Guo owns and operates a retail platform for the discovery and download of mobile content and value-added services. With a network of branded kiosks located in high-traffic retail settings, the company provides a setting for customers to learn about a wide range of mobile products and services, in a fun, interactive environment. Based in Shanghai, Duo Guo has developed partnerships with China's largest retailers and leading global media companies to bring the highest quality games, music, wallpapers, mobile applications and ticketing services to Chinese consumers.
