Etisalat and du connect Burj Dubai with Mid-East’s fastest broadband

Etisalat and du have connected the world’s tallest building in Dubai with their advanced telecom technologies. All visitors and occupants inside the 160-storey tower will enjoy the Middle East’s fastest broadband connectivity available throughout the building. Burj Dubai, opened on January 4, 2010, will have mobile and fixed line services throughout the tower including all elevators.

This is also the first time in the UAE that a building will have comprehensive elevator coverage and a unique solution has been deployed to ensure that calls remain connected from the car parks to the top-most floor, said Etisalat, which has completed the design and implementation of the most modern mobile infrastructure, which is in turn compatible with the latest wireless standards, eg, WiMAX and Long Term Evolution, within the world’s tallest building.

Residents, visitors and corporate executives will have full access to all of Etisalat’s mobile services as well as fixed-line services anywhere within the iconic tower, the company said. Almost 100 engineers, consultants and technicians worked on the installation which has taken three years to implement including the design phase.

“Etisalat’s mission is to extend its customer’s reach, and there is no better example of how we are achieving this than through equipping all users of the world’s tallest building with the most powerful communications infrastructure available...Not only are we able to provide the highest quality mobile network to support telephone calls, but through our fibre-optic service eLife, provide the fastest mobile broadband services. This not only makes this particular installation the highest, but also the most advanced,”” Etisalat COO Ahmad Julfar said.

Separately, du announced that its enhanced mobile network now covered the world’s tallest tower, allowing visitors to access a range of mobile services anywhere inside the building. This move was in-line with du’s efforts to expand its mobile network across major landmarks in the UAE, and to cover 99% of residential areas by the end of last year, in addition to offering fixed network services.

“Covering the tallest building in the world with our state-of-the-art network compatible with 2G and 3.75G mobile technologies is a significant achievement for us and a major step forward for mobility users,” said Hatem Bamatraf, SVP network development, du.
