Satellites, Broadband, Global:  Nera Satcom AS is set to join Inmarsat in the beta testing of Inmarsat's Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) service on the Nera WorldPro 1000 terminal.

The announcement is a milestone towards commercial service introduction of the broadband satellite service. The beta test of the Nera WorldPro 1000, which is the smallest and lightest BGAN terminal in the range, provides an opportunity for selected beta test customers around the world to use the device with their own choice of peripheral equipment and applications.

"Nera has taken on an important role by not only testing their Nera WorldPro1000 end user terminal, but also in contributing to the testing of the entire BGAN system. End-to-end applications, including operational and support aspects, are tested by real customers," says David Kingdon Jones, BGAN commercial director, Inmarsat.

Email, video conferencing, IP streaming and voice calls are just a few of the applications that will be tested by these real customers around the globe. The beta customers include military, aid agencies, media companies and other typical target users of the forthcoming BGAN service.
