Networks, IP, China, Asia-Pacific: China Mobile’s programme for attaining VoIP network migration in Shaanxi Province is now complete, thanks to softswitch solutions from Huawei. VoIP network migration has as its aim the optimisation of network structure, lower operating and maintenance costs, and an enriched end-user experience. The world’s first-ever large-scale All-IP transformation is the result.

Huawei has successfully completed the Voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) network migration of local exchanges in Shaanxi Province. The contract was awarded by China Mobile to optimise network structure, lower running costs, and enrich end-user experience. The result is that Huawei is helping China Mobile, a mobile carrier with over 300 million subscribers, towards the first-ever large-scale All-IP transformation in the world. The VoIP network transformation of local exchanges is another milestone in China Mobile’s All-IP strategy which has involved the All-IP transformation of tandem networks throughout the country over the past two years.

Huawei’s distributed-structure All-IP softswitch solution enables China Mobile to adopt IP for carrying voice and signalling messages without changing the service experience of subscribers. The system also contains added benefits such as a self-protection mechanism which further enhances the security of IP networks, so that if a fault happens to the IP bearer plane, the network automatically switches to the second plane without a call drop or a call loss. Huawei is also providing China Mobile with professional services such as consulting, network engineering design and normal-running management, and completed the transition in 45 days with no impact on the original service support system.
