Video, Mobile, Entertainment, Indonesia, Asia-Pacific: Ten million subscribers to Indonesian mobile operator PT
Excelcomindo Pratama Tbk (XL) are now set to enjoy mobile video technology.
Source of the technological empowerment is a partnership of IP Unity Glenayre,
Dilithium, Polycom, locally based PT Asia Quattro Net and Inphosoft.
IP Unity Glenayre, a specialist in delivering messaging and
multimedia solutions over IP, TDM and enterprise networks, is currently helping
to bring mobile video services to South East
Asia. The company's Versera Intelligent
Communications Environment (Versera ICE) is enabling new mobile video
applications on “The First with the Widest & Fastest 3G Network in Indonesia”
which was launched in September 2006 by Indonesian mobile operator PT
Excelcomindo Pratama Tbk (XL).
With this new service launch, XL’s 10 million subscribers
will have access to a range of advanced mobile video applications. IP Unity
Glenayre, working with partners Dilithium and Polycom, along with the local support
of PT Asia Quattro Net (AQN) and Inphosoft, is powering the launch with Versera
Video Solutions.
One of the most interesting mobile video applications is
the XL Video Portal. Based on Versera Video Portal, XL subscribers experience
an interactive video interface that enables them to search through a wide
selection of content, and seamlessly view the desired media, before even having
the ability to purchase the content in certain cases. The Versera Video Portal
is designed to rapidly adapt to ever-changing content and support integrated
advertising as IP Unity Glenayre customers move to sponsor-based engagements.
“XL’s success has been built by delivering the most
advanced technology to its subscribers; today’s mobile video network brings the
very latest technology to millions of people across Indonesia,”
said I Made Harta Wijaya, VP of Value Added Services at XL. “To deploy an
advanced network of this scale, we needed a trusted partner with proven
technology.”
Bruce Bales, President of IP Unity Glenayre, commented,
"Many operators have launched 3G networks, but few offer such advanced
video applications. XL is leading the way in Indonesia
by pioneering the very latest video technology. By introducing video solutions,
XL can apply new and effective methods for generating higher ARPU while
widening its range of offerings to 3G end users.”
Dilithium Networks will support the network with its DTG
2000 multimedia gateway, a component in enabling XL to build next-generation
converged voice-video networks. Polycom is providing advanced video
conferencing capabilities.
* IP Unity Glenayre’s Versera ICE is compatible with IP
Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), enabling operators to plan for convergence and
future applications. Headquartered in Atlanta, USA, the
company also has offices in Singapore,
Milpitas, Bangalore, Hong Kong and Shanghai, as well as South America, Africa, Europe and the Middle East.
** XL, a subsidiary of Telekom Malaysia,
is a leading telecommunication company in Indonesia.
It started commercial operations in 1996, and currently provides consumer
solutions by providing dual band cellular networks through pre- and post-paid
cards. The Business Solutions unit of XL is a provider of leased line,
broadband and IP-based corporate solutions. In 2005, TM became the controlling
shareholders with 59.7% equity stake in XL.
