E-Link Americas selects Nera SatLink for satellite broadband Internet |

Satellite, Latin America, Caribbean: E-Link Americas, a not-for-profit corporation established to promote connectivity for social and economic development in Latin America and the Caribbean, has selected Nera to supply broadband satellite equipment.
E-Link Americas, born of a commitment made by the Canadian Government at the 2001 Summit of the Americas, brings low-cost Internet access to unserved and underserved communities, schools, health centres and municipalities. They can then harness the power of the Internet for individual and collective benefit. The Nera SatLink 1000 and 1910 broadband satellite terminals will provide connectivity for a variety of broadband services. "E-Link Americas built its network on the DVB-RCS two-way satellite standard" explains Andrew Carnegie, Chief Technology Officer at E-Link Americas. "The Nera SatLink passed all compatibility testing with our existing hub equipment with flying colours." The Nera SatLink portfolio was the first to receive the official interoperability certification from SatLabs, in September this year. Its equipment is intended to help E-Link Americas and its local service partners (LSPs) lower their costs. By 2010, E-Link will have deployed over 10,000 points of access, impacting hundreds of thousands of people in its target areas in the Americas. |
