HSPDA, 3G, Mobile, Poland, CEE: Nokia is currently supporting Polish mobile operator Polkomtel
which is launching its commercial High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA)
network in the Warsaw area.
Nokia’s HSDPA solution is claimed to offer Polkomtel
customers mobile data services at speeds of up to five times faster than
current WCDMA speed while still operating the network in a cost-efficient way.
Polkomtel and Nokia have been working together for ten
years. The latter has been supplying HSDPA under an extension of the existing frame agreement for
GSM/EDGE and WCDMA 3G, signed in 2005. In WCDMA 3G, Nokia has had 63 customers
to date.
* Polkomtel SA is one
of three mobile telephony operators in Poland, marketing its services under
three brand names: Plus, Simplus and Sami Swoi. It was the first company to
offer UMTS (September 2004), MMS messaging and voice-based access to SMS
messages to its customers.
