GSM, Mobile, Peru, CLA: Nokia has implemented a complete GSM core network for Telefónica Móviles Perú.

As part of the deal, Nokia has provided its mobile softswitch MSC Server System. Telefónica Móviles Perú is a new customer for Nokia, the 3GPP compliant architecture of which will allow Telefónica Móviles Perú to gain significant cost savings in the operation of its GSM network. Examples of the latter will include lower transmission costs and floor space occupancy, as well as an evolution path to future IP networks.

In addition to the core network equipment, Nokia has provided network planning and optimisation services, training and operations support for six months. The network is supported by the multi-vendor and multi-technology Nokia NetAct network and service management system.

The GSM network is now operational, and Telefónica Móviles Perú has launched its services under the brand movistar Perú. The network deployment was the fastest-ever for Telefónica Móviles. The contract reflects Nokia’s current strategy, which is to create seamless user experiences in converging networks via mobile soft-switching and IMS for fixed and mobile.

* Telefónica Móviles Perú markets its services under the brand name movistar. It has more than 4,000,000 customers as of June this year. Telefónica Móviles Perú was the first 3G carrier in Peru, and now has around 1.6 million 3G customers. This February, the company launched its first GSM services.
