News, Disaster Management, Lebanon, MENA: Emerging Markets Communications (EMC) has recently connected an EMC Quick Deployment kit which is now fully operational in Beirut, Lebanon.

ImageEMC Quick Deployment is a custom-designed disaster communications solution which uses the most reliable existing hardware as well as Ku and C Band GEO-based satellite communication technology. This solution provides voice, data and Internet access.

Since March 2006 a number of Quick Deployment kits have been stored in the logistics centres of several non-governmental organisations. The kits include EMC pre-staged and pre-configured antennas which are specifically designed for emergency response. In August 2006 an EMC Quick Deployment kit was delivered from a logistics centre in Dubai, UAE, and installed in BeirutEMC provided the connectivity in less than 48 hours from the time it left the logistics centre.

System Overview

Quick Deployment uses a Ku or C Band 2.4m-1.8m or Ku Band 1.2m antenna, fully enclosed in self-contained carrying cases. The cases also hold an EMC Turbo modem, Low Noise Block (LNB), Block Up Converter (BUC), Cisco Router 1760v, UPS, and an EMC monitoring device and cables. Thus the whole equipment is shipped in one piece, improving delivery and integration times. EMC’s own engineers install Quick Deployment in the shortest possible time in the nearest safe area.

This system allows the client enterprise or organisation to connect to its LAN and PBX by using EMC’s all-inclusive remote equipment. Voice interface is T1, E1 or FXS /FXO. Data interface is Serial RS499 or Ethernet. EMC uses 32kb/s-758kb/s turbo short-block Ku or C Band SCPC with dedicated private lines. With no overbooking or sharing of capacity, the system provides 585msec RTD with 10e-9 BER and a guaranteed, single end-to-end IP hop.

EMC has a global network of strategically located support centres and two wholly-owned teleport facilities, in Raisting, Germany and Redditch, England. These are equipped with 11m-32m C, Ku, L, and X-Band antennae, providing access to 99% of areas and territories. The facilities are supported by 120,000 sq. ft. of highly secure disaster recovery and business continuity infrastructure and provide the following services:

  • MPLS and ATM in all major European cities
  • MPLS and ATM throughout the United States
  • Tier 1 Secure and Managed Internet Access
  • PSTN access
