Contracts, NGN, Telephony, Internet, Russia, CEE:  A Next Generation Network (NGN) with integrated multimedia platform for advanced IP-based applications is set to provide Moscow personal, mobile and secure multimedia services.

Comcor’s integrated network services platform is being used by telephony service provider IAS (itself a member of Comcor Group) in order to deliver what the company intends to be new and simple, easy-to-use IP-telephony services that are attractive to customers and provide good service value. Customers can also optimise their communications expenses by selecting service combinations tailored to specific needs. The network can also grow as user demand for additional advanced services grows, thereby reducing customer churn.

Initially, Comcor plans to offer these new services to approximately 30,000 existing subscribers in the Moscow area with network capacity available to increase the subscriber base to 500,000.

Comcor’s upgraded network solution, which is expected to be fully operational by late 2006, also includes site survey, network engineering, installation, commissioning, and customised training for network specialists by Nortel.

Comcor Group is active in Moscow’s telecommunications and already owns and operates Moscow’s largest fibre-optic network. The latest project to deploy an NGN is creating a new revenue stream for the Group as well as offering an improved communications experience for current and future subscribers.

The Comcor Group’s NGN solution comprises the Communication Server (CS) 2000 carrier grade super class softswitch, with all necessary local type approvals, supporting industry-standard SIP and H.323 protocols. It also includes the Nortel Media Gateway (MG) 15000 Trunk Gateway as a PSTN gateway, to provide scalable and high quality voice solutions in order to integrate traditional and next-generation networks.

For the future, Nortel’s Border Control Point 7200 is designed to provide a secure media proxy SIP-server. This solution can in the future be easily integrated into the IMS architecture as an application SIP-server and PSTN media gateway.

Nortel service partner Jet Infosystems will supply the equipment for the project; Comcor’s NGN is expected to be fully operational by late 2006.
