Nokia powers Eurotel's Czech HSDPA network |

3G, Mobile, Czech Republic, CEE: Czech mobile operator Eurotel Praha has launched the country’s first High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) network.
The solution, provided by Nokia, allows Eurotel, an affiliate of Telefónica and O2, to operate its network more cost-efficiently and offer mobile data services to its customers at download speeds twice as fast as the current fast data solution. In WCDMA 3G, Nokia has 58 so far. Nokia's HSDPA is a simple software upgrade to Nokia WCDMA networks, thus enabling cost-effective and fast rollout. In the first phase, the Nokia HSDPA offers average data speeds of 1-2 Mb/s. Nokia has won over 20 contracts globally, nine of which have been publicly announced. It has supplied the HSDPA solution to Eurotel as part of a contract announced in September 2005. * Eurotel Praha (www.eurotel.cz) provides complex voice and data services to more than 4.67 million customers (December 2005). It is 100% owned by Cesky Telecom. Within the Czech Republic Eurotel operates the NMT and GSM network as well as unique 3G networks: CDMA2000 1xEV-DO data network and, most recently, the UMTS network which enables data, voice, picture and video transmission. |
