News, Markets, Internet, Yemen, MENA: Despite the liberalisation of the Internet market in Yemen, the Arab Advisors Group believes that this market has high entry barriers. The low tariffs of the governmental ISP, Yemen Net, compared to its rival, Y.Net (which also has majority government ownership) as well as the substantial difference in their market shares may hinder new entrants from seeking to operate in the country.

The Ministry of Telecommunication and Information Technology (MTIT) is the authorised body which awards ISP licences, according to both telecom law and the Ministry's regulations. However, the Public Telecommunication Company (PTC) is a separate legal entity under the umbrella of the Ministry of Telecommunication and Information Technology (MTIT). It remains the sole body in Yemen that regulates the Internet and Datacomm markets.

"Yemen Internet and Datacomm Landscape" is a 42-page report released to the Arab Advisors Group's Telecoms Strategic Research Service subscribers on February 13, 2006. With 42 detailed exhibits, it provides a detailed analysis of the Yemeni Internet and datacomm markets and profiles the two ISPs in the countries, Yemen Net and Y.Net. The report includes five-year historical information and five-year projections on Internet uptake and revenues. The report provides, moreover, a detailed and comprehensive picture on local Internet market strategies and regulations, e-commerce, and online content and services landscape.

Any investment in this report will count towards an annual Strategic Research Service subscription should this latter be acquired within three months from purchasing the report, which costs US$950 from the Arab Advisors Group. Purchasing the report can also count towards attending the Arab Advisors' Third Annual Media and Telecoms Convergence Conference on June 6-7 2006.
