Handsets, SE Asia, Huawei Technologies:  Taking the opportunity of Thailand‘s ICT Expo 2005, Huawei has launched a new dual-mode 3G handset that supports UMTS, GPRS and GSM networks.

Known as the U636 the handset is designed to work on 3G and 2G networks.

The U636 multimedia power phone delivers audio/video capabilities to consumers in the entertainment and communication fields. Huawei believes that the lack of handsets is one of the reasons why the 3G market has been unable to develop to its full potential. The role of the U636 handset is to integrate several functions, enhanced by high-end configuration and a fashionable footprint to meet customer needs.

Huawei is confident U636 will meet the needs of the mobile worker, and will offer always-on, always-connected voice and data services such as email, MMS, and mobile broadband access to multimedia content, live video streaming and video conferencing. The handset supports Java games and applications software and features built-in wireless modem, WAP 2.0 browser, Bluetooth connection and PC synchronization with Bluetooth via USB. In addition, the U636 has a memory of 40 Mb and a maximum capacity of 1 GHz.

Users looking for a digital imaging experience in their phone will find the U636 equipped with a 180° rotatable 1.3 mega pixels digital camera that supports 4x digital zooming for photo and video capture. Colour display resolution is 262K and there are dual colour TFT screens. Roll-out of U636 is intended to be global.

“The Huawei U636 is built to offer high-quality performance with a focus on multimedia entertainment as well as speed for work usage,” says Li Cheng Jun, director of Mobile Marketing Department, Huawei Technologies.
