News, Viettel Telecom, I-Mail, Mobile email, Vietnam: Mobile email is now a reality in Vietnam, as one of the country's mobile service providers, Viettel, has adopted Memova, a mobile email solution from Critical Path. Viettel Telecom has selected Critical Path Memova Mobile consumer mobile email solution as its way of delivering push email to its subscribers in Vietnam. Viettel Telecom, with approximately 25 million active subscribers, is one of the leading mobile service providers in Vietnam. It has now now become the first operator to launch consumer mobile email in Vietnam, branding the service "I-Mail".

Memova Mobile is claimed to work on virtually any mobile phone and does not require users to download or install client software. It works with almost any standards-based email service, enabling users to mobilise one or more of their existing email accounts. I-Mail subscribers can also easily send and receive multimedia content on their phones. Additionally, the service offers an easily managed inbox - delivering email messages only from approved sources - thereby eliminating mobile spam and giving consumers complete control over their email experience.

"Vietnam is one of the fastest growing mobile markets in the world. Viettel is a market leader and we are excited to be partnering with them to bring the first mass market mobile email service to Vietnamese consumers," said Sanford Law, Director of North Asia, Critical Path.

I-Mail was launched on a trial basis on July 23, 2008, where all subscribers could use the service for free until August 31, 2008. A full commercial launch is now underway. The service fee, which includes unlimited inbound email messages, will be 15,000 VND per month.
