News, 3G, Egypt, North Africa: Alex Shalaby, CEO of Mobinil is set to speak at North Africa Com 08, just over a month after Mobinil launches its new 3G mobile services...
Egypt's state news agency, MENA, recently announced that Mobinil’s new 3G services would finally commence on September 1, immediately before the start of Ramadan. The service was originally scheduled to launch earlier in the year but has been subject to regulatory and technical delays.
Mobinil is the third 3G operator in Egypt, after Etisalat Misr and Vodafone Egypt. The 15 year deal allows Mobinil to use UMTS, EDGE, HSUPA and HSDPA technologies and to provide services that include video-messaging, high-speed data transfer and internet, MBMS services, Mobile TV, Push-to-View and GPRS.
Mobinil will present a case study at the conference, which is being held in Cairo on October 14-15. Alex Shalaby has been President and CEO of Mobinil since 2005, prior to which he was responsible for the licensing and regulatory affairs required for setting up Mobinil.
Mr Shalaby joins an array of speakers including Mohamed Elmandjra, CEO of Meditel, Morocco and Hatem Dowidar, CEO Partner Markets of Vodafone Egypt.
