News, Thuraya, Satellite, Tibet: Satellite telecom operator Thuraya is sponsoring one of the world's greatest explorers Sir Ranulph Fiennes, OBE, with his latest mission to climb Mount Everest to raise funds for the UK based Marie Curie Cancer Care charity.
Thuraya is supporting the climb with a range of telecom equipment and facilities including a ThurayaDSL terminal for broadband communication, a Thuraya SO-2510 mobile hand-held, solar panels and batteries. Using the equipment Fiennes will be able to post photographs and reports of the journey on his website as well as Youtube videos.
"Thuraya is very proud to be part of this endeavor that is being undertaken for the benefit of cancer patients." said Thuraya's Senior Manager of Corporate Communications, Mr. Ebrahim K Ebrahim. "Thuraya has the capacity to provide uninterrupted telecom connectivity across 170 countries, in all urban, rural, remote and difficult terrain areas. The coverage on Mount Everest will enable Sir Ranulph to record his trip and emergency service will be available at all times."
Thuraya has an active program of supporting social projects, having recently sponsored Newton Jibunoh who traveled through the desert from Lagos to London to draw attention to the need to curb desertification. Later this year the company is sponsoring two young cyclists Mr. Amiram Roth-Deblon and Ms. Ragna Schmidt-Haupt, who will be traveling through Africa to combat climate change. According to Ebrahim "...we believe we always have a vital role in enhancing communities where we operate around the world."
Sir Ranulph Fiennes will be raising 3 million pounds sterling for the Marie Curie Cancer Care charity.
