Connected Opportunities: Making a Difference with Women's ICT-Enabled and Based Enterprise PDF Print E-mail

Training, Enterprise, ICT, India:ResponseNet, an Indian based development assistance agency recently ran a two day training seminar designed to create greater awareness of the need for ICTs and increase ICT skills amongst women.

The seminar showed how women's ICT-enabled and ICT-based enterprises can contribute to community development and help ensure sustainability and growth. Training included a review of strategies which can be adopted by women for ICT-enabled and ICT-based enterprises to attract investment and donor finance. Sessions covered issues of good practice and guidance and looked at solutions for the special challenges faced by Women in ICT Enabled and ICT-Based Enterprises.

Expert organisations which were represented included the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC), the Women's Studies and Development Centre of Guru Ghasidas University Bilaspur - Chhattisgarh, The Indus Entrepreneurs, TIE (Knowledge Partner) and One World South Asia. Speakers included  Dr. Anupama Saxena, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Political Science, Guru Ghasidas University, Bilaspur, Prof. Vijendrakumar Narendraprasad Shukla, Professor, University School of Information Technology and Geeta Malhotra, Head - ICT Advocacy, Grassroots Communications & Capacity Building.

The training consisted of structured learning exercises and case-studies. A participatory approach was used with trainers and participants sharing experiences, good practices and lessons learned to enhance learning opportunities which favour the development of innovative approaches.

Training sessions designed for professionals working in the area of ICT for Women are a relatively new phenomenon. They benefit individuals representing organizations from the development sector and those working for ICT corporates, NGOs and stakeholders who will play a critical role in planning and managing Women's ICT-Enabled and ICT-Based Enterprise. Both support seekers and providers were well represented.
