 Natural disasters can happen anywhere. But their impact on emerging and developing economies can be more devastating and long term than elsewhere. Following the Asian Tsunami and Hurricane Katrina it is not surprising that communications companies world-wide have looked again at their strategies for dealing with natural disasters. Communications systems are highly vulnerable in disasters. Yet communications are vital for co-ordinating a response to the disaster. In this section we present a range of news, information, products and strategies for getting communications back in the shortest possible time after a natural disaster and for making systems as disaster proof as is possible.
