Huawei Technologies' Quidway ME60 Multi-Service Control Gateway is promoted by the company as its flagship product for next generation IP networks... Huawei Technologies' Quidway ME60 Multi-Service Control Gateway (MSCG) is promoted by the company as its flagship product for next generation IP networks.

The gateway is believed to be the first tailor-made product for carrier-class IP networks which provides telecom operators with the capability to solve the problems concerning IP network QoS and security. The Quidway ME60 MSCG is a next-generation multi-service solution.

Another first is its capacity: a 10Gb multi-service control product. Huawei is emphasising large capacity, high performance, strong service integration, service intelligent processing and control as well as broadband access capability. It is intended to support rich services, including terminal access authentication, service identification and classification, safety protection, session agent, hierarchical QoS scheduling, service distinguishment and VPN services.

Patrick Wen, Vice President of Huawei Technologies Europe, sets the context for the launch: "The increase in the number of broadband subscribers has sped up the integration of telecom network and IP network, putting the telecom industry under much pressure to transform the networks. The IP network is being transformed from bearing single Internet services to multiple services, for example voice, data, video, 3G and NGN services. It has become clear that few operators are able to handle the business potential the IP network can now offer due to the shortage of practical network transformation solutions."
