Bandwidth efficient VoIP platform launching in India

A new joint venture has been formed to offer VoIP services in the Indian market. Horizon Globex, a subsidiary of One Horizon Group, and collaborated with Voicecom Technologies to distribute its Horizon VoIP platform.

The platform enables VoIP from only 2kbps, compared to around 8kbps from other VoIP platforms. This makes it one of the most bandwidth efficient VoIP platforms in the world. The bandwidth saving extends into a range of optimised data applications, including compressed email, accelerated web browsing and optimised instant messaging.  It is fully compatible with digital telecommunications standards and is capable of interconnecting any phone system over IP.  The platform is deployable in the satellite, fixed and mobile markets.

Under the new collaboration, Horizon Globex will be focusing on providing the platform to network operators and service providers in the region. Voicecom is based in New Delhi and has operations in Singapore, Thailand, Nepal and the Philippines.  The company has over 200 employees serving major telcos in India and countries in the Association of Southeast Asia nations (ASEAN) region.

“By combining the resources of both companies and Voicecom’s knowledge of the local market, we expect great success for Horizon in the world’s second largest mobile market”, said Mark White, CEO, One Horizon Group.

“Horizon represents a significant opportunity for telcos and service providers to minimise the volume of data their subscribers consume”, noted Vijay Sharma, Director, Voicecom.

India’s telecom sector is experiencing tremendous growth and the platform is ideally suited to address congestion on mobile networks in crowded urban areas, resulting from rapid adoption of smartphones, increasing demand for mobile applications and the scarcity of 3G spectrum.  Horizon will help Indian mobile operators to relieve pressure on their networks, reduce call dropping and improve customer satisfaction by using bandwidth more efficiently.
