Balkan breakthrough for Nokia, Cosmote

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrint

Nokia and Greek mobile operator Cosmote have signed an agreement for the supply of WCDMA 3G radio network. With this 3G deal, Nokia, a long-term GSM infrastructure supplier to Cosmote, further cements its role in the development of Cosmote's mobile networks in Greece and elsewhere in the Balkans.

Under the agreement, Nokia will deliver WCDMA 3G radio access network infrastructure, and an extensive range of services including delivery, implementation, project management and care, as well as other support services. The system continues to be supported by the unique multi-technology Nokia NetAct solution, which supports both 2G and 3G networks. Deliveries will start immediately.

Nokia has been Cosmote's main GSM system supplier since 1997, providing network solutions for radio access, and circuit and packet core.

 * Cosmote, a member of the OTE group, started commercial operations in Greece in April 1998. Currently it has over 4 million customers in Greece and enjoys a leading position in Albania through AMC, that country's leading mobile operator.
