Latin America’s leading wireless services provider, America Movil, has selected Alcatel-Lucent to provide infrastructure for its LTE/4G network rollout across the continent.

The deployment will commence with America Movil’s operator Claro launching commercial high-speed mobile broadband services to subscribers in Puerto Rico in the coming weeks. Claro’s service offering will use Alcatel-Lucent’s LTE solution, including its breakthrough lightRadio portfolio of products.

“Claro Puerto Rico continues to lead the market with the most advanced technology on the island’s most powerful network,” said Enrique Ortiz de Montellano, President of America Movil’s operations in Puerto Rico. “With speeds as high as 100 megabits per second, our subscribers will enjoy the most advanced wireless broadband services.”

The Alcatel-Lucent solution deployed by Claro in Puerto Rico also provides a future evolution path to ensure that Claro continues to offer breakthrough, state of the art network connectivity in Puerto Rico. This solution also provides an evolution path to Alcatel-Lucent lightRadio product family that will dramatically reduce operating costs, technical complexity and power consumption in mobile broadband networks.
