Overview

The Romanian telecommunications market is one of the most interesting, attractive and strategically important markets in Central Europe. Four major takeovers in early 2005/6 by leading world players (Vodafone, France Telecom, CosmOTE and UPC) in deals valued at over US$3 billion are reconfiguring the Romanian telecommunications landscape. Further important privatization and IPOdeals that could raise over US$1 billion, are expected soon. The contest for the last two 3G licenses has revealed big surprises, while the contest for WiMAX licenses is expected to be launched during 2007/8.
